Green Light Go
A selection of works by artists from the MFA Fine Arts & Design program at Parsons School of Design.
Today we live in a world of chaos. Yet thin lines of hope exist in the dreams of great peoplewho have chosen to dedicate their lives to creativity and art. Issues surrounding the environment, global warming, society and the economy lead us to believe that there is little hope for the future. Some artists are mirroring many of these thoughtsofhopelessnessand despair. However, these times also allow artists a unique opportunity to overcome this negativity and its repercussions.“Green Light Go” asserts that artists need to lead in these times, not follow. Along with a second iteration of this show being planned for the fall of 2009, this exhibition allows us to make a collective statement of hope. Art is meant to inspire, to lead, and to inform. The artists in this exhibition bring a meaningful and realistic vision for the future of art, ou rplanet and our environment. Through the dynamic use of space and materials, a strategic use of conservation and recycling, a remembrance of good and bad times, and a focus on both artifact and artifice, this exhibit encourages people to care deeply about our world and the future of our communities in which we live and work.
